Age is just a number, or so Robert Lewandowski proves. At 36, and after three seasons with Barça, the Polish striker has just produced his best campaign in the blaugrana jersey. Across all competitions he scored 42 goals in 52 matches, figures that confirm his status as one of the world’s elite centre-forwards.
That impact becomes even clearer when set against his previous two years. In his debut season, 2022/23, Lewandowski struck 33 goals in 46 games. The following term, 2023/24, he tallied 26 in 49.
Guaranteed source of goals
This season’s numbers work out at 0.8 goals per match. That's nearly a goal a game! The 42 goals break down as follows: 27 in La Liga, 13 in the Champions League, three in the Copa del Rey and one in the Spanish Super Cup final against Madrid.
An essential player
Even at 36, Lewandowski has been indispensable. He featured in almost every fixture, missing only the home-stretch games against Mallorca and Valladolid (La Liga) after a hamstring strain, and managing just half an hour of the Champions League semi-final tie with Inter.
This third Barça season reunited Lewandowski with a familiar face: Hansi Flick. The German coached him at Bayern Munich in 2019-20 and 2020-21, the magical sextuple season included. Flick has again proved pivotal, with Lewy’s 42 goals helping Barça clinch a domestic treble of La Liga, Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup.
