Amor is a La Masía success story. He joined as a boy and his time at the blaugrana residence saw him grow as a person and a footballer. He played 421 competitive games for the first team and scored 68 goals. Dutch coach Johan Cruyff gave him his chance when joined Barça in the summer of 1988. Guillermo Amor was an all-purpose midfielder with great skill and reading of the game, enjoying a major role despite the competition for places in the team. He was one of the team captains and much loved by the fans. After 10 seasons and winning the double under Van Gaal, he left to join Fiorentina in 1998. After two years in Italy, he returned to the Spanish league with Villarreal, before finally retiring in Scotland with Livingstone in 2003.
He played for 37 times for Spain, scoring 4 goals, including at the World Cup in France in 1998 and the European Championship in England in 1996.
